The data set listed utilizes the only available metric (news reports). The Nevada Taxicab Authority (TA) and Nevada Taxi Authority (NTA) are responsible for collecting all data pertaining to threats to public safety relating to taxicabs and rideshare vehicles in Nevada. Both agencies have recently stopped allowing public access to their respective data. This research is an attempt to compare and contrast the number of reports of serious safety issues and criminal activity relating to and of, TNC's ( Uber and Lyft) as opposed to taxicabs in Nevada. TNC's were authorized in November 2015. This data set compared all reported incidents in news media from November 2015 to the May 2017.

The reported incidents that constitute "threats to public safety" are reported at a significantly higher rate involving taxicabs than those involving TNC vehicles in the State of Nevada. The metric utilized in this report relies heavily on incidents reported in newspaper, television news and police reports. The data indicates that the outcome falls outside an anticipated margin of error. This research indicates that TNC vehicles may be inherently safer than traditional taxicabs.This research also gives a strong indication that background investigations done by Technology Network Corporations (Uber / Lyft) for drivers may be significantly more effective in terms of ensuring public safety than those done by the State of Nevada.
